Audience of One was a weekend centred around one question: who are we living for - God's opinion or man's?
Across six sessions, we explored the voices shaping us, the approval we seek, the fear of people, faithful service and what it means to live wholeheartedly for Christ.
Whether you joined us on the retreat or not, you can continue the journey here.
THE RETREAT RECAP
We worshipped, prayed, learned, reflected, built community and created space to ask what it looks like to live, love and obey for God alone.A GLIMPSE OF THE WEEKEND
Worship. Community. Conversation. Rest. Fun.

What God Did
“I hadn’t realised how many ‘silent bondages’ were holding me back from living fully. I’d also been praying for a while about praying in tongues, because I sometimes wondered whether I was just copying what I’d heard from others. During worship night, I felt a real assurance that God had given me that gift. It was such a personal moment for me, and I hope it encourages someone else on their own journey. Praise God for what He did.”
-- Ridda“I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to tell a close friend who doesn’t know the Lord that I was praying for her. I was nervous about how it would be received, but she told me it was exactly what she needed that week. It reminded me that we can’t control people’s reactions, but we can choose to follow God’s prompting and trust Him with the outcome.”
-- Cerys“Seeing people open up, encourage one another, worship together and genuinely do life together really moved me. I came away feeling grateful for LIFEHOUSE, for the friendships we have, and reminded not to overlook the gift of Christian community.”

REAL LIFE. REAL QUESTIONS.
What does living for an Audience of One actually look like when faith meets everyday life?
-
Start by noticing where you edit yourself.
Maybe you’re open about your faith at church but quiet about it at work. Maybe you speak differently around certain friends, avoid saying what you really believe, or go along with things because you don’t want to stand out.
The goal is to become more consistent.
Ask yourself: If I genuinely believed God was my primary audience, what would stay the same no matter who was in the room?
That might mean speaking honestly, refusing to join in, mentioning your faith naturally, or simply not pretending to be someone else to fit in.
Audience of One means being the same person in every room because God is the One you’re ultimately living for.

Start by noticing the sentences you keep repeating about yourself.
“I’m behind.”
“I’m not good enough.”
“Nobody needs me.”
“I should have achieved more by now.”Then ask: Where did that belief come from, and does it agree with what God says?
Someone’s words may have hurt you. Your job may change. People may stop needing you. Your friends may appear further ahead. But none of those things get to become the final definition of who you are.
Keep returning to Scripture until God’s truth becomes more familiar than the labels, comparisons and circumstances competing with it.

Honour is about how we treat people, not pretending we agree with everything they say or do.
You can listen properly, speak respectfully, refuse to bad mouth or belittle someone, and still say, “I can’t go along with that.”
If what someone wants from you conflicts with what God is asking of you, honour does not require agreement or obedience to them.
Where a conflict exists, scripture gives us the principle: “We must obey God rather than human beings.”

Biblical love is not simply making sure nobody ever feels uncomfortable.
Sometimes love means telling someone the truth, even when that truth may be difficult to hear. Not because we are always right, but because we believe God’s Word is true.
That should make us more humble, not more self righteous. We are not presenting our own morality as the standard. We are pointing each other back to a truth that we are also accountable to.
We can’t call silence “love” simply because telling the truth might cost us approval.
Audience of One means loving people enough to point them towards God’s truth, even when staying quiet would be easier.
Go deeper: Session 3 — Who Are You Really Following?
-
Notice what happens when you think about disappointing them.
Do you panic? Rewrite messages repeatedly? Avoid saying no? Hide what you really believe? Feel unable to make a decision until they understand you?
Those reactions can show that their opinion is carrying more weight than it should.
Start small. Say the honest thing kindly. Set the boundary. Stop over explaining. Let someone disagree with you without immediately trying to fix how they see you.

-
Look at what happens when someone else gets the credit.
Do you feel overlooked? Need people to know what you contributed? Lose motivation when nobody notices?
That can reveal that recognition has quietly become part of the reward.
Serving God means doing the right thing even when our name isn’t recognised by people.
We can appreciate encouragement but we shouldn’t make it our motivation. Everything should be done for God alone.
Go deeper: Session 4 — Faithfulness or Applause?
-
Boldness is often less about having the perfect words and more about deciding who you are trying to please.
The Four E’s give you a simple way to act.
Be present with people. Ask real questions. Listen for what is underneath what they are saying. When the opportunity comes, gently challenge what they are putting their hope in. And when the door is open, actually speak about Jesus.
You do not need to force it. But do not keep stopping short because you are worried about how you will be perceived.
If someone shares that they are struggling, ask another question. If they are open, offer to pray. If they ask why your faith matters to you, answer honestly.

We’ve created a practical resource to help you continue working through the themes from the retreat.
It brings together key Scriptures, session summaries, reflection questions and practical challenges designed to help move the conversation from something we heard to something we live.
